Sheesh! Kids these days.
..at a local private 2 year college, and I couldn't help but notice how clear the leader's intro comments were during the concert. They were coming from a grated space above the stage. So I took a closer look...Gee are those white horns I dimly spy through the grate....
So I locate the sound guy after the concert and start asking him about the sound system. He say's it's a 20 year or older system that he'd like to replace, made by some computer speaker company called Altec Lansing.....:2thumbsup:
He also told me he had to replace one of the amps within the past year, a black Altec amp solid state he thought...
Anyway, I told him that I wouold be more than willing to help out by helping him get rid of the old system and donating some cash towards a new system at the same time....
I really couldn't get a close look at what was in there, but I'm guessing from the vague size and shape that the most likely candidates might be from the MR series, maybe MR64's or something one size smaller. I know they were too small to be 94B's, but I'll bet they are large format of some type. There were at least 2 of them in there, and I think I'm going to call him up to schedule a time to go take a look.....
Wish me luck....![]()

Sheesh! Kids these days.
I used to be known as "AltecFan" but now I'm "Altec19" . . .
Give me your address - I'll send you a copy of my AES paper, "Vintage Professional Loudspeakers: Their Care, Renovation, and Use". He might find it helpful...

Todd:
Can you post your discussion paper on this forum or did I miss it being posted here?
The AES won't let me - they own the copyright since they printed in their Journal - but I am free to give out copies of it.

I'm going to scream if you end up with a pair of 9864-8A's.
Sorry, I never got back with you about the 816VI cabinets. I did PM HJS, but never got measurements to him. As time got shorter to AkFest, I got busy with my own preparations, and figured HJS was probably doing the same, and I didn't want to impose on him.

Just got around to speaking to the fellow who would sell them. He's busy with dance recital season currently, but I have an e-mail addy now, and I've asked him to take some pix at his leisure and send them to me....:2thumbsup:
It might be 2 weeks, or 4 or maybe longer, but I've learned after taking 6 months to get my Simplexes that with Altec gear, sometimes patience is actually a virtue.....
